You will have heard that lifting weights makes women bulky or that its bad for you and you should stay away from it. All that is nonsense and it is stopping too many women from getting the benefits of weight training. Cardio has its place in your fitness regimen but so does weight training!

Here are some reasons why you should incorporate weight training into your routine:

Many people think weightlifting means adding size to your body however when you put it against cardiovascular exercise, weight training comes out on top in the fight to burn calories. The biggest benefit to weight training is your body’s capability to burn fat during and after exercise.

 

  • More Muscle, More Calorie Outlay

As your strength increases and you gain lean muscle mass your body will use calories more resourcefully. Daily muscle contractions contribute to how many calories you burn in a day. If you have more lean muscle mass due to weight training the more muscles contractions will occur and therefore this burns more calories.

 

  • Bone Health

As you get older, you are at risk of losing both bone and muscle mass. Postmenopausal women are at a higher risk of osteoporosis. Resistance training is an outstanding way to battle loss of bone mass and it reduces the risk of osteoporosis.

 

  • Exercise in an overall way is a great way to manage stress. Those who regularly strength train mange stress better and experience fewer hostile reactions to stressful situations as those who do not take part in exercise.

So Ladies if you want to feel strong, confident in what you do resistance training can benefit in all aspects of your life. So make sure you incorporate some form of weight training into your fitness plan to feel stronger, healthier and more confident.
