Coconut Oil – Everything you need to know

At our 360 Fitness gym in Stalybridge we have received a lot of questions about coconut oil.

Here’s everything you need to know, and how you can use it to supplement you work outs and training regime.

Coconut oil contains a high amount of medium chain fatty acids (MCTs), this makes it a lot harder for the body to convert into stored fat and makes it easier to burn off.
A recent 16-week study comparing the use of coconut oil to olive oil found that the users of coconut oil produced more weight loss and fat loss compared to olive oil.

In comparison to other fats, coconut oil contains 2.6% fewer calories, one tablespoon of coconut oil contains 117 calories, 0 grams of protein, 13.6 grams of fat (11.8 saturated, 0.8 monounsaturated and 0.2 polyunsaturated and 0 grams of carbs, fibre and 0 grams of sugar.

Make sure you get 100% virgin organic coconut oil as all coconut oils are not created equal!
Cooking with Coconut Oil
This is the most common way people use coconut oil. Use coconut oil in all your cooking. Replace your other cooking oils with virgin coconut oil. You can also bake with coconut oil too!
Add Coconut Oil to Smoothies, Yogurt, and Hot Drinks
Aside from cooking, you can add coconut oil into your smoothies, coffee or tea, yogurt. Just make sure to gently melt your coconut oil and slowly pour and stir it into your smoothies and yogurt. This will help the coconut oil from clumping in your cold goodies!

Do remember adding coconut oil is still adding calories into your nutrition plan so even with all the added benefits make sure you still fit it in with your macro’s or daily calorie allowance!!!
